Preserving ancient life, connecting community, and sharing stories of this land.

Plan Your Visit

McAbee Fossil Beds is an not only an opportunity for us to learn more about the scientific side of how this land was shaped and formed, but also who we are... how unique we are, and how were we were shaped and formed.

Our Story: Land, Fossils, and Culture

McAbee Fossil Beds sit on Secwépemcúl’ecw, the unceded territory of the Secwépemc. Fossils here date back over 50 million years, preserving plants, insects, fish, and even birds from the Eocene epoch.

After seven years of closure, The McAbee Fossil Beds are protected as a heritage site and now proudly operated by the St’uxwtews Pesuten Heritage Society in collaboration with the Bonaparte First Nation.
Plans for a research and visitor center are underway, offering a chance to explore both the scientific story of the land and the cultural story of its people.
